Annie loves animals. Anyone who knows Annie knows this. She loves all of them,
but especially dolphins. She has a menagerie of pets that she cares for. Her number animal is much more than a pet. It is her Service Animal, a dog named Bailey. Bailey is a Therapy Animal, who, as Annie explains to people who ask, "helps me to stay calm." And does a great job of it, too. With Bailey along, Annie is now willing to leave the house under circumstances that would have traumatized her only months ago. The process turned out to be easier than we thought, since Bailey was an older dog from the Animal Shelter and did not require the level of intense training that say a Seeing Eye Dog does. It's been great. For "just pets" there is another dog, Henry, a half miniature Schnauzer, half Bischon Frieze, or a "Schneeze" as we refer to him. He's quite bright, just turning a year old, and Annie and Sarah have trained him in all kinds of agility type contest things. Annie also has a yellow spotted gecko, numerous frogs, an African Tortoise, a box turtle, a water turtle, lots of fish (including koi in our outdoor pond) and I'm sure I'm missing something.
Annie has been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (mild autism) in addition
to the mitochondrial disease. She also has Raynaud's Syndrome (very poor circulation in her hands and feet). Annie has low body weight, low muscle tone, migraines,
and muscle pain. She is very quiet and likes to be alone. She will play with her
siblings on occasion though. She wants to be a veterinarian--big surprise, right?
One more really cool thing about Annie is her artistic ability. She has done some great sculptures as gifts for family and I need to post pictures of those, but I also want to show here a couple of my favorite drawings she's done. These are both about a year old, done when she was 13. The first is called "Flying Annie" for obvious reasons. The second I call "Horse Ghost Forest". I hope you enjoy them!
